About LaymansGolf

Hi, my name is Greg and I'm the founder of LaymansGolf.com!

As it says on our Home Page, our goal is to provide you with as much information about golf as we can in an easy to understand manner. I believe that anyone can learn the game of golf because I didn't know a thing when I started.

I grew up surrounded by sports. My two older brothers and I played everything from football, baskeball, baseball, soccer and more. I've been playing sports for as long as I can remember.

In fact, that's about all I can remember. Don't get me wrong I loved playing these sports, especially in high school. They were challenging and taught me a lot of great lessons, not to mention they were a lot of fun.

Throughout these years I was introduced to golf by my dad. However, we would only play a random round here and there because my athletic focus was always directed elsewhere.

With a lot of hard work ... and extracurriculars, I was accepted to Cornell University. It was a great accomplishment for me and off to school I went.

A few weeks into college I was itching to do something. You would think that this is when I began playing golf, but no, I joined Cornell's rugby team. Three and a half years and two concussions later, my rugby career was over.

In my last semester of college, I found myself with some free time. I decided to get a season pass to Cornell's Robert Trent Jones course and that was it - I was hooked. Since then I have done nothing but play golf. I love everything about the game.

I love the physical challenges. The body movement and control it takes to sink a two inch ball into a four inch cup over 400 yards away.

The mental challenges- It takes a certain mindset that requires a great deal of discipline and focus to shoot a good round of golf. The control needed to finish out a good round and the perseverance needed to stay in a round to finish with the best score possible is both fun and challenging.

Not only do I find the mindset for golf fun but when I am in that frame of mind I feel relaxed. There are few places that I feel more focused and at home than on a golf course.

What I love most about golf is that...it's hard! The beauty of golf is that anyone can play the game but it takes dedication, persistance, practice and hard work to play it well. There are always things to work on in your game and improvement is always possible. Luckily, golf is a game for life!

My girlfriend could tell you that I have put a lot of time and effort into my golf game and through the years I have taken lessons, read books, kept my stats and anything else you can think of to help me get better. I even taught my Mom how to play. She's getting there. I am currently a 2 handicap and constantly work to play better simply because I love the game.
